At one point, Sony asked GameStop to take "unlimited" PS4 pre-orders. A report at Computers and Video Games tells them that starting next week all UK retailers cannot guarantee PS4 pre-orders for launch day.
With demand exceeding initial expectations, pre-orders placed after August 5th at UK retailers, might not arrive to buyers on launch day. Any pre-orders placed after will reserve a console, but nothing more. The sources also claim that retailers will receive launch day consoles so people who didn't pre-order, can still try to buy a console.
The report also suggests that these launch day pre-order limits may only apply to the UK and Europe. As of now, both American and Canadian retailers continue to take pre-orders for the PS4.
Although many seem excited about the PS4's $399 price point, the PS4 currently finds itself ahead of its competitors due to reasons like headset compatibility. Just this morning Microsoft confirmed that Xbox 360 headsets will work with the Xbox One as long as people purchase an adapter. Microsoft initially said that all old headsets would no longer work with the Xbox One.
The PS4 will launch this November alongside, Killzone: Shadowfall, Kanck andDriveClub.
