Quantum Break Blending Alan Wake Storytelling, Max Payne Shooting

July 4, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Remedy is using everything it’s learned to craft Quantum Break.

Remedy might just be making the strangest “game” out there for the Xbox One. Instead of simply iterating on the Alan Wake franchise and satisfying a select audience, the development house will attempt to blend both television and video games with Quantum Break. It’s a unique venture, but one that’s building on the fundamentals the team has learned through years of game creation and crafting stories.

Speaking with Game Industry International, Remedy CEO Matias Myllyrinne explained how the company is purely building on what it does best.

"We've taken a lot of the learnings about interactive storytelling from Alan Wake and we hope to raise the bar further," he said. "We've taken a lot of the learnings about cinematic combat and shooting mechanics from Max Payne to push those further. We're building on those for what will hopefully be the ultimate Remedy experience."

Why add the TV element to what could have been a simple, standalone package? To Remedy, it just seemed like a fun thing to do at the time.

“It'll be one cohesive package. So it'll ship on one disc or as one single download. We're not doing episodic as a business model, it's more for pacing and consumption of the content,” Myllyrinne continued. “There are natural pauses in there, but it's up to the audience as to how they watch it.”

Sadly, Quantum Break won’t arrive as a launch game, but look to see if the developers can pull this move off in the near future.
