The 4th installment grand strategy wargaming series Europa Universalis released their latest developer diary today, discussing the role of religion and how its been incorporated into the game mechanics.
Paradox Interactive has incorporated religion into the game with the intent of recreating its influence in its timeline, which starts in the11 November 1444 A.D., and ends in the late 18th century. Nations start out with official religions, but the game will allow subtleties by allowing nations to have mixed denominations. Project Lead Thomas Johansson talks in some detail about recreating the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in game to demonstrate how you can make decisions about religions that will affect the game. Other religions you can choose for your state include Buddhism, Islam, Animist, and you can choose groups within religions as well, such as Sunni, Protestant, Catholic, etc.
Paradox will be having a livestream of Europa Universalis IV coming tomorrow to Twitch. The stream begins at 6 pm GMT/ 7 pm BST/ 8 pm CEST / 11 am PDT, and can be viewed at their channel.
Lastly, they revealed a new batch of preorder DLC, called Purple Phoenix. July DLC will add new events and themed event pictures, and new unit models for the Byzantine empire. Each month's DLC reveal is actually a tease: irregardless of when you preorder, you will get preorder DLC, including content that has yet to be revealed.
We reported on Europa Universalis' reveal just last month. Seeing that the last installment of the series came out in 2007, this game has been a long time coming.
