Earlier today it was revealed that the formally exclusive Rayman Legends for the Wii U, which was due in just a few short weeks, was not only being delayed, but also being released for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. And, not surprisingly, many people are pissed.
Destructoid posted a humorous round up of all the venom being spewed at Ubisoft's Facebook page. Even now, almost 12 hours after the news first broke, people are still voicing their displeasure over the situation.
My favorite comment thus far is one that's rather short and simple: "Ubi. you done goofed"
There are two particulars that people are upset over. First is how many diehard Rayman fans actually purchased their Wii Us specifically for Legends, because it was so heavily touted that the game could only be done on Nintendo's new console. So to hear that it's coming out everywhere else has left a sour taste in many people's mouths.
But the second is how it is assumed that the Wii U version is more or less finished and is only being held back for the sake of the other (supposedly inferior) versions.
Another valid point is how releasing Legends in the fourth quarter of the year is a bad move, since a cartoony 2D platformer won't be able to stand a chance against all the holiday, AAA blockbuster releases. So when it does poorly at retail, Ubi will have a convenient enough reason to stop supporting such games anymore.
Though as it turns out, those who want to play the game aren't the only ones who are angry, but the people who made it as well, supposedly. Over at NeoGAF, they've reposted comments made from someone who worked on the game, made on another message board.
The following is the translated version, which was originally written in Spanish…
"I completely understand you but you have to understand one thing. This is not a decission taken by the development team, this comes from really really high up, so please don't pick on the game.
If you're pissed, imagine how we feel. Think on the situation, we've been making overtime with this game practically since May preparing E3, and then almost a demo per month (gamescon, Wii U presentation, shops, eShop, etc…) and at the same time trying to actually finish the game. We had a first delay because it was obvious we couldn't finish on time but we gave it all to be there on February. What face do you think we had when the week we had to close the game we're being told it's not going to be released? I couldn't believe it.
For practical matters, you'll have to wait for some months for the game to be released and will most likely serve for more content to be added and do it better. For us, this means we've spent 6 months barely seeing our wifes, kids, and friends for nothing because, after all, such a haste wasn't needed. Believe it, it was a hell to swallow these news.
Even then I'm firm in what I said back in the day, Rayman Legends is an excellent game and will still be, and the team that's making it doesn't deserve to have your back turned on them just because some men in ties one day took a wrong choice. This industry is really that shitty"
Many who had pre-ordered the game have vowed to cancel it and boycott the publisher, though many have questioned if such a move would ultimately do anything.
