It seems not everyone in the gaming industry thinks or wants a free-to-play (F2P) gaming future. As the first day of DICE 2013 was waning, IGN spoke to game director and Quantic Dream boss David Cage on what he thinks about F2P.
Now, Cage hasn't been known to beat around the bush, and he admits that he's not a fan of the F2P market, since he'd rather just up front than having to constantly pay each time you need something.
I’m not a big fan of free to play. And this is just me but when I buy something I don’t like the idea that I start playing for free but each time I want to do something a little more interesting or progress I have to pay. I’d rather pay up front. Have a free demo but then pay up front and then just play but not have something each time I need more coins I need to put extra money on the table. I understand that some people like that, that they choose how much they can invest. If they like it they can invest more. I just want to pay up front.
So, I take it Quantic Dream isn't working on any F2P games then? Of course, seeing as their genre falls somewhere between a game and an interactive movie, I don't see how that would work as F2P game too.
Quantic Dream's upcoming game is Beyond: Two Souls, which is expect to ship later this year exclusively for the PS3.
