Antichamber is like many indie efforts that have long mystified and stupefied individuals who have come across YouTube footage or game blog write-ups. And it too has made the rounds, winning awards at industry events, and been playable at trade shows like No Quarter and the Penny Arcade Expo.
But that's where the similarities end. Antichamber defies description and comparison. And after four years in development, it's finally coming to one and all. January 31 will see its release on Steam.
Again, since it's so difficult to summarize, perhaps it's best to let the official press release give it a shot:
"Antichamber is a mind-bending psychological exploration game where nothing can be taken for granted. Players will discover an Escher-like world where hallways wrap around upon each other, spaces reconfigure themselves, and accomplishing the impossible may just be the only way forward."
The game was created by Australian native Alexander Bruce, who was quoted by Joystiq as saying:
"After several years of obsessively watching people play and trying to get inside their minds, refining and then watching some more, this is what I've discovered, and it's finally time to share that with the world."
