The latest installment of Animal Crossing for the 3DS, New Leaf, is the first 3DS game to hit 2 million copies sold in Japan. That alone should be evidence enough of the franchise's immense popularity. But here's the thing: it managed to reach that mark in less than two months.
Simply head on over to Tiny Cartridge to see an animated gif that illustrates how New Leaf has managed to reach such a record high and in such a short time, when compared to other best sellers, like Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, Monster Hunter 3G, and New Super Mario Bros. 2.
There are many reasons behind the game's immense popularity. And one of them is most definitely not due to it being just the same old thing. Again, Tiny Cartridge is your place to go when it comes to seeing how featuring rich New Leaf truly is (like this most recent post that highlights all the wacky cutouts that users have been making and sharing amongst each other).
At the very least, it'll help pass the time, until it comes out in America, sometime in the first or second quarter of 2013.
