It seems Crystal Dynamics's upcoming Tomb Raider reboot won't just feature an all-new Lara Croft in an all-new setting. If this leak by retailer GAME is anything to go by, it might also be the first Tomb Raider game to incorporate multiplayer!
Over at GAME's official Tomb Raider page, it listed the key features the game has and it mentions a "variety of multiplayer modes" that will let players "survive as a team." Unfortunately, GAME has since removed the multiplayer bit, but lucky for us, AGB managed to grab the exact wording, which we listed below.
Key Features
â— A Turning Point: Experience Lara Croft’s intense origin story from a young woman to a hardened survivor.
â— An All-New Raiding Experience: Explore a mysterious island filled with environmental puzzles, visceral combat, and ancient tombs to discover.
â— Fight to Live: Salvage resources, gain experience, and upgrade Lara’s weapons to survive the island’s hostile inhabitants.
â— Survive as a Team: Play a variety of multiplayer modes as Lara’s Shipmates or Yamatai’s Scavengers.
Of course, there is a chance that this could be a mistake on GAME's part, but based on the wording and how retailers almost always get news first ahead of official press, well, I really think this is legit. Nonetheless, though, treat this is a rumor for now until Crystal Dynamics or Square Enix gives their official word on the matter.
Also, to add fuel to the fire, Crystal Dynamics did say that they have "a special secret announcement that is going to change the way you play Tomb Raider forever." in Episode 3 of "The Final Hours of Tomb Raider" video documentary series. Aside from that, the pre-order timeline reveal also has January listed as a month in which they'll reveal yet another piece of pre-order content. Maybe an Online Pass for multiplayer? If so, January seems to be the perfect time given the game's March 5, 2013 release.
Would you want multiplayer in Tomb Raider or will this just be a tacked-on experience added in to sell more DLC and whatnot? Old-school Tomb Raider fans, let us know what you think.
