A new rumor has surfaced that the next Far Cry title, Far Cry 5, suggests that the game will take place in a Western setting.
The news comes from the Great Falls Tribune, where they wrote about a film crew filming a trailer for an upcoming video game. A producer at the shoot, Jeff Guillot, revealed some interesting tidbits about their work.
Guillot stated that the trailer is for a game that ” is a sequel to an existing global franchise” and “will be released in September.” Many people might automatically assume that this could be for Rockstar’s upcoming title Red Dead Redemption. The game is set in the West, older setting, etc, however, as Nerdbrite points out, Guillot has past experience working with Ubisoft on titles such as Driver, Red Steel 2, and Rabbids.
And the icing on the cake might be the leaked survey Eurogamer obtain in early 2015. The survey was sent out by Ubisoft to players asking them what setting would they like to see for the next Far Cry title. There were a lot of suggestions such as a futuristic, sci-fi setting on another planet a Mad Max-style post-apocalyptic world and even a present day on a Jurassic Park style island of dinosaurs.
But out of the list, it seems that they went with the Spaghetti Western style setting set in the 19th century Americas. This would fit perfectly with what Guillot and his crew were shooting. And if you’re like me, your probably wondering what a Spaghetti Western is, well here is an official description on the title: a movie about the American Old West made cheaply in Europe, typically by an Italian producer and director.
