Nintendo's Wii U is less than two-weeks away from seeing an official launch, but up to now, we're still left in the dark regarding what it has to offer online.
One thing we do know now is that the Wii U will require a day one update for the Miiverse and its online component. This fact was revealed by IGN, who already has a pre-launch Wii U unit provided by Nintendo.
According to the site, not much is known about this upcoming update other than it will add Miiverse, Wii U chat, Nintendo's TV-streaming service — TVii and the console's eShop. Supposedly, Nintendo will release an update that will enable these features shortly before the console's launch; this is expected to be the same update Wii U owners will have to download and install once they buy the Wii U at retail.
Hopefully, this isn't a precedent on how the Wii U's online system will work. If there's one big hole in Nintendo's arsenal, it's their implementation of online. I don't assume they'll be able to catch up with Microsoft and Sony's online infrastructures, but I'm hoping that they can at least compete on that level.
Are you worried with Nintendo's Wii U online plans or do you think they learned the mistakes from the original Wii?
