Peter Molyneux's latest "game," Curiosity: The Cube, seems to be a rousing success so much that it has caused 22 Cans' servers to act. This fact was revealed by Molyneux himself over Twitter where he shared the following over a series of tweets:
I now understand what's going on, basically we and our server are overwhelmed by the number of people trying out the experiment.
after a little cry I am immensly grateful to everyone for their patience, the six of us are working overnight to keep the service going
We're also working on an update that will fix the problem.
Everyone please remember something as concurrent as this has never been attempted before, and we're just a tiny company.
What we've learned so far is amazing and we'll share all of this but first we must fix the problems. SO SO SO sorry but please be patient.
What makes this so scary, because we want to keep the cube active we are having to make changes on the server live. Praying to the gods.
Molyneux also revealed that over 158,000 users have downloaded the free app, with over 97 million "cubelets" already destroyed on the first layer with the average destruction rate for each player at 306. Additionally, Molyneux announced that over 2 billion in-game coins have been spent, with 625 users purchasing the "1 million coin" chisel. Keep in mind that the stats mentioned are just for the app's first day of release.
Curiosity: The Cube is Peter Molyneux's first project since his departure at Lionhead Studios earlier this year. It is the first "experiment" from the famed game designer's new studio 22 Cans.
Have you tried Curiosity yet? If so, what do you think of Molyneux's latest "game?"
