Overwatch had quickly become a must-play video game title. The video game was a hit for hero first-person shooters as gamers are able to choose from a roster of characters with their own unique attributes to use against the opposing team.
While players have not slowed down when it comes to logging into the video game, the title does lack a campaign. This may have some gamers hoping that one day developers over at Blizzard would be able to patch in a whole campaign.
The very question came up through an interview between Overwatch’s director, Jeff Kaplan, and International Business Times.
When speaking to Jeff Kaplan, the game director stated that while a campaign for Overwatch would be phenomenal, it would be challenging. The video game was developed to be a six vs six action shooter which would require the developers to recreate the game as their established formula would likely not work as a campaign experience.
“A campaign would be phenomenal, I think a lot of us can see what that might be like in our engine and in our game. The reality is, and I know it’s not the sexiest answer or the one fans necessarily want to hear, but making an entire campaign is the same effort as making an entire game. It’s not just a feature that we can patch in some day.”
Furthermore, it was noted that making a campaign for Overwatch would essentially be crafting a whole game from scratch. There’s no way that the developers would create a campaign and simply patch it in. Turns out that if fans would like to see an Overwatch campaign then they’ll have to wait and hope its included within a potential sequel.
