The development team, Naughty Dog, has delivered a number of great hits and it certainly has us wondering what the future holds with one of their iconic franchises, Uncharted. Currently, the development team is working on an expansion known as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy though it doesn’t look like we may see any additional installments afterward.
Speaking to Game Informer, Naughty Dog’s president, Evan Wells revealed that the studio doesn’t think too far ahead. When it comes to how the development team works, they focus on what titles they are currently developing and getting them out the door.
So when it comes to Uncharted, Naughty Dog doesn’t have plans past their development of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Evan Wells does state that the development team has wrapped up Nathan Drake’s story and they do have other ideas outside of the game universe. However, there are no plans on continuing serially.
Likewise, the Uncharted franchise could potentially never see another installment as Naughty Dog’s president stated that they ended other past fan favorite franchises such as Crash and Jak and Daxter.
Furthermore, the subject of past desired goals came up. It wasn’t too long ago that Naughty Dog attempted to staff two full teams to work on productions, though it was quickly discovered to be near impossible. Instead, Naughty Dog has a team working on a video game title such as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy while another smaller team lays down the groundwork on a separate IP.
In this case, once the developers officially wrap Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, the group will move into fully producing The Last of Us Part II.
