I think most can agree that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for SNES is one of the finest games ever made. It expanded upon what made the original Zelda great and tossed out all of the more frustrating elements. Some people might say it's a perfect game, but we all know that nothing is perfect. There's always room to make what's already great just a little bit better…
Over on the Zeldix message board, there's patch for the ALttP ROM that adds CD-quality audio. How is that possible? The patch makes use of the MSU1, an enhancement chip not unlike the famous Super FX, although this one was developed by fans. It increases the available memory of an SNES game to 4GB, allowing for all sorts of high-end music and video to be added. In this case, it adds the arranged ALttP soundtrack created by the Zelda music group ZREO.
That's not all! Also added are fully animated cutscenes! These scenes actually come from Zeldamotion, a project from Aeipathy Industries to adapt the ALttP manga by Akira Himekawa. For an added touch of professionalism, this fan animation features notable voice actors such as Todd Haberkorn (Android 19 from Dragon Ball Z Kai), Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist), and others.
While the patch can be used with certain emulators, the big news is that it can be used in conjunction with the sd2snes flash cart so that it can run on an actual SNES! For further information, check the details below the YouTube video.
