Images have come out of a Bluetooth gaming controller with the Amazon logo on it. The source claims that this will be used for Amazon’s next media streaming device, signaling their entry into games.
The images are sourced from an overseas regulatory agency, and in similar vein as USPTO patents and ESRB ratings, when this information is outed, the companies involved can’t do anything about it. This is because some of this information has to be made public by its very nature (set by the rules, or a need for public disclosure, etc).
As has also been pointed out, however, the controller looks very similar to the one previously used for OnLive. As such, it could mean that this was made by the same manufacturer. I would go one step further and speculate that this could possibly be connected with OnLive itself, considering they recently resurfaced. Could OnLive be making some sort of deal with Amazon (and by extension, Steam)?
Really, though, lacking confirmation from Amazon, we don’t know for sure what this could be. It could end up to be just another Bluetooth gaming controller for smartphones, which just happens to have Amazon’s branding on it.
Rumors fly fast on what Amazon will do next, even outside the context of gaming, and considering their CEO revealed plans to deliver items via drones in the future, this is not even the craziest rumor we have heard. Whether it amounts to anything interesting, however, we will have to simply wait and find out.
