Among the Sleep has been in development for a while (since at least 2011, when it won a couple of awards called “Norwegian Game Awards Hype” and “Hamar Game Challenge”), but as it enters the final stages Krillbite Studio has decided to put the game up on Kickstarter for a boost in funds. The goal is to raise $200,000, which is enough to let the developers quit their part-time jobs and get the game finished by the end of this year.
For those who don't know, Among the Sleep is a first-person horror adventure game in which you play a two-year-old child. The game aims to play on the both the physical and emotional perspective of a toddler, providing the player with the rare chance to play as a protagonist much closer to the ground and more emotionally frail than usual. There'll be no combat, so avoiding confrontation with the threatening creatures you come across will involve finding somewhere to hide. But the child can die, and Krillbite has a blog post that discusses the implications of that. The ultimate goal of the game is to make your way through the environment safely and reunite with the child's family.
The Kickstarter campaign for Among the Sleep has 25 days left, and has already raised $74,451 (at the time of writing) towards its $200,000 goal. If it hits this target, Among the Sleep will launch for PC, Mac, and Linux towards the end of this year. Does it sound like something you'd play?
