We reported a few months ago that a few key personnel from People Can Fly have left the studio to start their own thing. Now, that "thing" officially has a name and it's a new studio called The Astronauts.
Founded by former People Can Fly Creative Lead Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michael Kosieradzki; the studio will once again build their games using the Unreal game engine, which they licensed from Epic.
Under this agreement, The Astronauts have the rights to develop multiple games using the latest Unreal Engine technology. While the studio's new game and its platforms are unknown, it will debut in 2013 using Unreal Engine 3.
Here's what co-founder Adrian Chmielarz had to say regarding the recent pairing:
We’ve worked with UE3 for the last six years, and we know its power…Choosing Unreal Engine technology for our future was the textbook definition of a no-brainer. We are on a quest to map uncharted waters, and Epic’s tech provides the stability required for success.
Seeing as this will be released next year and will use the Unreal Engine 3 and not 4, I gather it will be a current-gen title that might be for the PSN and Xbox LIVE?! Of course, this is just conjecture at this point, but regardless where the studio's new game is released, let's wish them all the best.
