FromSoftware, the developers behind Dark Souls could be working on a new way to play the game, in VR. In a pre-show livestream at the 2016 Golden Joystick Awards, Dark Souls 3 producer Atsuo Yoshimura was asked, “What’s your take on VR, are you for or against, do you like the idea of it? Are we going to see Dark Souls in VR?” by host Julia Hardy. Yoshimura replied, “Err, yes…we’re hoping, we’re hoping.” So perhaps a VR version is in the works after all.
However, it is unsurprising that Dark Souls VR may be in development, as this is certainly not the first time that FromSoftware has voiced interested in virtual reality gaming. Dark Souls 2 director Yui Tanimura has previously stated that “the franchise would work “well” with virtual reality headsets”, and a video uploaded to the official FromSoftware Youtube channel earlier this year suggests that PlayStation VR support is the developer’s next project.

This week, the director of Dark Souls and Bloodborne, Hidetaka Miyazaki dicussed the developer’s next project, and it seems like they are working on something fresh. “Rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step in the new direction,” said Miyazaki.
Although platform details remain unconfirmed, the new unlisted video above seems to confirm reports that FromSoftware could eventually create a game for the headset. A PSVR move would certainly add more variety to the current library of games that FromSoftware has in its repertoire, but only time will tell what FromSoftware’s definite next move will be.
