SEGA and Creative Assembly have announced Total War: Rome 2. Exclusive to the PC like its predecessors Shogun 2 and the rest of the Total War series, Total War: Rome 2 is set put us back in the sandals of Caesar and his contemporaries as they vie to take over the ancient world.
Described as "enormous," Rome 2 will be the biggest game in the Total War series yet, offering both land and sea battles and even amphibious ones like the Battle of Carthage—no longer are the two modes divided. Needless to say, you're going to need a new PC.
In addition to the gigantic battlefields, Rome 2 sees the introduction of a new branching storyline mechanic which creates dilemmas and forces players to make difficult choices as they play through each campaign well beyond the decisions they make with their military. The new mode is laden with what the team refers to as "human drama", not unlike the politicking and intrigue seen in G.R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire and Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series of novels.
The game's announcement comes with a live action trailer, which you can watch above the fold.
