What’s the Meaning of Torment: Tides of Numenera?

September 8, 2016 by Nick Monroe

Explore the legacy of this world and franchise.

The spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment started it’s development back on Kickstarter in 2013. The team has been hard at work for the past three years painting the picture of this fantasy world that their game takes place in.  When it comes to a game of such lore-heavy caliber, the depth of Torment: Tides of Numenera as a setting needs to be properly explored. Luckily, the developers have put out a video to help define the meaning of the game.

The world of Torment: Tides of Numenera is a billion years in the future, set in the Ninth World – the newest layer on top of eight fallen civilizations. The remnants of humanity are left to try and understand what the powerful Numenera technology is capable of, and the player is a part of that path to enlightenment.

“We just came back from a really successful showing at Gamescom where we were thrilled by the reception. We really appreciated both the fans who enjoyed our preview and the journalists who came to see us and praise our efforts. Winning some of the best RPG awards was a great feeling for the team. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Role Playing Games, I consider it an art form and a genre that invokes more emotions than any other. The feedback from the show energizes us as we moved towards finalizing the gold master for release into the wild,” said inXile Founder Brian Fargo.

Torment: Tides of Numenera arrives on PC (Mac/Linux), Xbox One, and PS4 in early 2017. To learn more about the game, read about it on their website, Twitter, and Facebook.
