It's clear that BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic might not be able to wrestle the MMO crown from Blizzard's World of Warcraft, but just how many people are actively playing the MMO nowdays?
While the exact number might not be revealed just yet, it seems one dedicated The Old Republic fan has calculated how many people are on each server; and the answer is, not a lot.
The user, which goes by the username Scorpienne, has posted his findings on the official Old Republic forums. He states, "Total Estimated Worldwide Population of all servers" for the past two weeks is 73,693. This figure merely represents the average number of people logged in at a given time and not the total number of players that have logged in over the two week period.
According to his calculations, the game currently has 214 servers currently active, with the less popular servers being essentially empty, and that average rounds out to only 344 players at any given time for each server.
The most popular server to date is The Fatman server, with an average of 2006 players at any given time. However, Scorpienne notes that this "theoretical average population" is simply an average and that it "underestimates the peak population and overestimates the off-peak population."
While these numbers might not be as bad as some people make them out to be, it's clear BioWare has to consolidate its servers, lest people desert the game entirely due to the dwindling population.
Are you an Old Republic player? Is the game's population lacking or are the calculations flat-out wrong?
