Michael Pachter finds the idea of console manufacturers blocking used games in the next generation as bad as you do. He said so in the latest episode of his show on GameTrailers, Pach-Attack:
I think the industry will disintegrate; I think there will be no more videogames if next-gen consoles don’t support used games. You hear that, Sony and Microsoft? You have to support used games.
Pachter's probably right, to a degree if no more. And really, the idea of used games being somehow blocked or prohibited next generation has always sounded like a sub-culture conspiracy theory. Third-party publishers might fantasize about it (disclaimer: I'm mostly joking. I highly doubt anyone cares that much), but why would console makers get behind it? New consoles are expensive and the ability to buy cheaper, older, possibly used games subsidizes the cost of entering a hardware generation.
