As we all know by now, Assassin's Creed III features a half British, half Mojave Indian protagonist. What you may not have known was that scalping was originally going to feature in the game.
It's not clear what purpose scalping enemies would have served, but after doing more research, the AC team decided to drop the feature.
Tommy Francois, development director on the project, explained why: "Something we found out right after we finished building [the] target gameplay footage was that we had one shot where Connor, the hero, was scalping a character. We found out through research that, our hero Connor is half British and half American Indian, and he's a Mojave, and we found out that Mojave Indians didn't scalp. So that was one feature we got rid of."
He also added that the feature didn't necessarily add anything to the game and made it "more violent than it needed to be."
If for some reason you have a strange fantasy about scalping British soldiers in video games, you'll have to keep looking. I'm guessing you're going to be looking for a while.
