Overwatch’s McCree OP Combo May Be Altered

June 1, 2016 by Dennis Patrick

Overwatch’s McCree has become too OP.

Overwatch2-McCree

Overwatch has a nice diverse set of characters to choose from since the video game’s launch. It’s quickly becoming a massively popular first-person shooter MMO, though there is still a bit of tweaking to be done. To be specific, McCree may soon find himself altered to stop the flashbang & Fan the Hammer combo.

It’s not unusual to find McCree in various team battles. The character has a nice ability to take down a wide assortment of character classes including tanks. Players quickly discovered a nice little combo that can have devastating effects towards the enemy.

One of the abilities McCree comes equipped with is a flashbang which will stun the affected enemy in its tracks for a few seconds. With that amount of time, McCree can deliver his move known as the Fan the Hammer. Ultimately, McCree can pretty much take out just about anyone and it’s not something Blizzard had in mind when creating this character.

This combination has proven to be an annoyance and has caused gamers to request changes towards the McCree character. After a post was made on the official Battle.net forums about the character combination, designer Geoff Goodman had made a statement on the new troubling matter.

“I’ve been watching McCree carefully since we’ve released. McCree’s flashbang plays an important role in being a strong option against very fast/agile teams (tracers/genjis/etc). It is also a nice tool to prevent close range devastating abilities and ultimates such as Reaper’s Death Blossom.

That said, its probably a bit too good at dealing damage to higher health targets such as Tanks and barriers. I don’t have any concrete changes yet, but I’m going to be testing some things internally to see how he plays.”

Unfortunately, it’s not known just what changes have been made for the character during its internal testing, but this could help solve McCree from being overpowered and instead a more balanced game character.
