Dragon’s Lair Coming to XBLA with Kinect Support

March 20, 2012 by Josh Harmon

This time, Dirk’s escapades will include a whole lot more waggling. Yes, we know how dirty that sounds.

Earlier in the week, European ratings board PEGI let it slip that Dragon's Lair was headed to the Xbox Live Arcade. Microsoft has now made it official, confirming that the laserdisc classic will soon be available for download with an unexpected suprise: optional Kinect support.

The relatively simple, choose-your-own adventure nature of Dragon's Lair makes it a solid fit for motion controls, especially the way developer Digital Leisure has implemented them. Rather than responding to on-screen events with button presses, you'll instead be presented with a gesture prompt that reflects what's happening on screen. Need to grab a rope to swing over that gaping chasm? Just raise up one arm in a grabbing motion, and the game will do the rest.

Sure, it's a little on the gimmicky side, but Dragon's Lair has always been something of a gimmick, and Kinect support should offer a fresh take on a game that's already been ported to every platform under the sun.

The feature also makes Dragon's Lair one of only two XBLA games to support both Kinect and a standard controller, the other being From Software's upcoming mech sim, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor.
