Moore’s Law Is Dead has shared a really interesting rumor in his latest podcast.
He said this:
…there is a survey Sony sent out to developers that is what I was told by my context a bigger survey than they’ve sent almost ever before, if not ever before.
And that there was a question in it asking if they had a basically trying to ask in a not direct way: is there an issue with how we like sell games physically? Or something like asking developers for feedback on killing discs.
Of course, this sounds just like the rumor a few days ago that XBOX is surveying their users about physical discs. But there’s a lot more behind this for PlayStation.
After all, they started this conversation when they announced they would stop making physical discs for PlayStation last July. The rumors shortly after this announcement is that Sony did not tell their 3rd party publishers and partners in advance.
More recently, John Linneman claimed coming out of GamesCom that some developers resent Sony’s plans. So if making physical discs could just be a tactic for XBOX, Sony has to worry if they can keep their stakeholders happy.
