Nintendo has gone on record that they did not charge their consumers extra for the IEEPA tariffs.
In their latest financial report for this quarter, Nintendo said this:
We recorded approximately 300 million U.S. dollars as a reduction of cost of sales in connection with refunds of IEEPA tariffs.
The tariffs related to the refunds were primarily borne by the company rather than passed on to consumers through product prices.
This categorically denies the fan theory that Nintendo raised the price of the Switch 2 to $ 450 and Mario Kart World to $ 80 to compensate for the US tariffs, which came to effect weeks before the console’s launch.
This also explains why they’ve filed to dismiss the lawsuit accusing them of doing this. Although it appears that Nintendo’s Washington lawyers didn’t know themselves.
Nintendo’s statement also suggests that the Switch 2 was never going to launch at $ 400. In fact, if Nintendo did want to pass the tariffs on to consumers, they could have launched it at $ 500 or higher. It’s certainly some strange karma that it effectively becomes $ 500 next month.
