One of the biggest questions that players have about Rockstar Games, regarding the upcoming GTA 6, is “How much of an improvement will the new game be over the older ones?” To be clear, they’re not just talking about things like graphics and frame rates, though they do want those to be good, too. Instead, they’re talking about the “little things” that can help make the franchise the best it can be. Believe it or not, one of the most consistent things that fans have asked for is better transitions between the overworld and the interiors of buildings.
In the past, when you went into certain buildings, you always had to go through a loading screen, which frustrated many, as no one likes loading screens. Recently, GTA Online launched the “Safehouse in the Hills” content, and with that, there was a noticeable shift in how the interiors of the mansions were handled, and some were wondering if this is a “test” for what’s to come with the new game. On Reddit, someone asked:
“With GTA 6 releasing in about a year from now, could Rockstar still be using GTA Online as a grounds for testing?
I feel that open interiors like these which do not require you to trigger a loading screen of some sorts could be potentially used to get an understanding of how much more they can optimise their game engine(I’m not sure if they’re using the same engine for the Enhanced edition as RDR 2). But if this is the case, it might open possibilities for more and more massive MLO interiors. Idk, it’s just an afterthought I had after watching the DLC teaser and trailers.”
It’s not a bad thought to have, and as some noted in the comments, it’s very fair to think that Rockstar Games was using its online mode to be a “test bed” for many things they want to do in the new game. After all, the online mode has been up for an incredibly long time, including during the development of Rockstar’s next title, so why not use it as a test platform?
Others in the thread pointed out that certain recent content additions have had indicators that they could be tests for the next game, too, including with certain cars, missions, and so on. As sad as it sounds, though, we’ll simply need to wait for the game to release to see just how much they took from the online mode and other games they’ve made in the “gap” between entries.
