Why Is Grand Theft Auto Online: A Safehouse In The Hills Arriving A Day Late?

December 8, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

We’re just asking questions.

Some fans noticed something about this week’s Grand Theft Auto Online update for A Safehouse In The Hills.

What’s Coming In A Safehouse In The Hills?

As we now know, this update is about more than the addition of mansions. Rockstar has pulled out all the stops and added the return of Michael De Santa since Grand Theft Auto V’s story campaign.

Michael is part of the story premise that allows players to buy mansions in the game, but his introduction has started fans speculating heavily on what else Rockstar has planned.

And that’s where this speculation came up.

What’s The Deal With Releasing On Wednesday?

GameRoll started asking questions on Twitter:

For some reason, Rockstar pushed the release of GTA Online’s Michael DLC back a day. It was originally meant to launch on Tuesday, December 9th (they always launch the day after these rewards end.)

I wonder if there’s something else coming on Tuesday? Very strange behaviour.

Vice City Vibes shared more context:

Rockstar Games notoriously release their DLC’s on a Tuesday. This time its Wednesday. I think it is clear that Tuesday was always the intension, which even Tez2 had predicted based on the current event ending on Monday.

Do you think that Rockstar Games possibly have another announcement ready for Tuesday?

What If They Just Need One More Day And That’s It?

Maybe the release was held back simply because Rockstar needed more time to get the update in order. They already know some dataminers will be checking it and they may hide what they can.

Alternately, the extra time could be for extra security measures, to keep hackers from ruining the launch. But it’s possible that it’s none of these things, and they really just need one more day.

What If The Announcement Is Just For The Mansions Update?

Another possibility is that Rockstar has proper marketing planned for A Safehouse In The Hills and they decided to take this extra day to get everyone’s attention. It could be a decent way to make sure everyone’s eyes are on the announcement.

If the mansions are that big, Rockstar may think it was worth the effort to make fans wait, and salivate for it to arrive. The hope is probably to get as many people back in Grand Theft Auto Online as possible.

What Else Could They Possibly Announce?

You’ve probably read some fun and wild speculation so we’ll drop one of our own.

We think Rockstar may have something set up in A Safehouse In The Hills that directly connects Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto 6. Maybe it isn’t as direct as Michael and Franklin meeting Jason and Lucia.

Maybe it will be something like a world event in Grand Theft Auto Online that carries over to Grand Theft Auto 6 and that game’s version of Grand Theft Auto Online. This delay for Grand Theft Auto 6 opened up the possibility for that kind of content.

If everyone is guessing correctly, we’ll find out as soon as tomorrow.
