Borderlands 4 Devs Are Not Interested In Nerfs Quite Yet

September 23, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

Your OP builds are safe for now.

Borderlands fans are currently enjoying the latest mainline installment. Following what many found to be a lackluster release with Borderlands 3, a lot of attention was focused on Borderlands 4. Now that the game is released, fans have been seeking out some of the best gear to equip for their favorite vault hunters.

Some of those builds are surprisingly overpowered. It is making the game a breeze to go through again. However, if you were concerned that Borderlands 4 developers are going to be nerfing these builds, you can rest easy. That doesn’t seem to be a priority for Gearbox Software at the moment.

Borderlands 4 Developers Are Not Nerfing Builds Right Now

We’ve seen the discourse about builds that use unintended interactions and/or the knife. We’re not going to act on those immediately, instead, we’re looking at our first round of buffs. Those will get addressed but we’re going to start with underperforming gear/skills first.

The news comes from Graeme Timmins, the creative director behind Borderlands 4. Taking to X, Graeme noted that they have seen discourse over the builds that use unintended interactions along with the knife. Currently, the team’s focus is on buffing certain items. Afterward, plans will be made to address some of the OP builds that players are creating.

Fans are generally taking this news well, as they are excited to see some of the skills and gear get the much-needed attention. For those of you who come across specific builds that might help you on your journey, you shouldn’t have any issues copying them. Of course, you still have to go through the hassle of farming some of these items.

For instance, we reported recently on a build that will essentially one-shot enemies. You can read more about that build and what you’ll need to equip right here. Furthermore, other players are discovering some useful glitches through the use of specific gear. An example of this is the speedrunning glitch that was uncovered, allowing players to bypass large sections of the map entirely. So for now, we know that we’ll be seeing more buffs happen within the game than nerfs.

That said, if you haven’t picked up a copy of the game, Borderlands 4 is available right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. Meanwhile, those of you on Nintendo Switch 2 should see the game release on October 3, 2025.
