Mortal Kombat fans might have to practice some patience here. If you were fond of the recent Mortal Kombat reboot, you know it’s been a wait to see a sequel come out. Everything was seemingly set to finally sit in on the fabled Mortal Kombat 2 movie this coming month. However, in a surprise announcement, the movie adaptation was just delayed.
That has to be a devastating blow, if not a fatality blow, if you were pumped at hitting the theaters. It’s a long-awaited sequel and the start of the tournament that the first movie was building up to. While filming was completed and everything seemed to be in place, a new report revealed that the release of this movie is being pushed back for more than just a few weeks.
Mortal Kombat 2 Delayed Until 2026

Yep, it’s delayed until next year! This news comes from Deadline, which recently reported the delay. According to the report, everything seems to be doing well. Researching screenings have been positive, and fans will get the next chapter, one that deals with the infamous tournament, which will decide the Earth realm’s fate.
However, it seems that releasing this movie in theaters this October would not attract a good turnout of viewers. That’s the belief, anyway, given the crowded October release schedule for theaters and the fact that Halloween is the following weekend. It appears that the best outcome was achieved, as the movie was delayed until May 2026.
That might put more fans in the seats of the theaters. Again, the movie will pick up where the previous title left off. We’re stepping into the grand tournament. This time around, we’ll have a new face to help the Earth realm out, that face being Johnny Cage, portrayed by Karl Urban.
So again, we’ll have to sit by and wait for this movie. Hopefully, that means there are some more marketing materials to get us through the next several months. Meanwhile, for those who are itching to get a new Mortal Kombat game, we’re also waiting on that front. Currently, the latest release in the franchise is Mortal Kombat 1, released in 2023.
