It’s not a secret that Hideo Kojima is a massive movie buff. While working in the video game industry, he has drawn inspiration from films and even used movie celebrities for his various character roles. Now we’re finding out that his latest big IP has a new adaptation in the works. Players can expect Death Stranding anime series to hit the marketplace in the future.
Don’t get too excited, as we don’t know much of anything as to what Hideo Kojima has planned. When Hideo first took his leave from Konami, quite a few fans were expecting that he might take up a film project. So, while he instead made his own game studio and delivered its debut IP into the marketplace, it looks like he’s finally going to fulfill that film fantasy.
We know that there is an A24 live-action adaptation in the works for Death Stranding. But thanks to VGC, we’re now learning that speaking to Vogue Japan, Hideo revealed that they are also working on a Death Stranding anime. Outside of that, there are no further details as to what we can expect from this new project.
Of course, outside of that, who knows just what Hideo has planned for this IP. That said, we do know that Hideo Kojima has more than just Death Stranding in the works at Kojima Productions. For instance, we know that he is working on a horror gameplay experience called OD with Microsoft and that he has a Sony title called Physint. While we don’t know exactly when OD will be ready, it has been confirmed that Kojima’s new espionage game is still years away.
Currently, the focus is on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. That sequel is quickly approaching its release date on June 26, 2025. Meanwhile, in other news related to Hideo Kojima, we learned that he will be present during Summer Game Fest 2025. What we don’t know is what he might be showcasing during this event. A safe bet might be it’s tied to Death Stranding 2 since we’re close to its launch date.
