Hideo Kojima is a beloved video game designer worldwide. With his Metal Gear franchise, the developer became an easily recognizable icon within the industry. However, since parting ways from Konami, the developer has yet to deliver a game that would directly appeal to fans of the original Metal Gear franchise.
So far, we have Death Stranding, the first debut title from Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions. After leaving Konami, Hideo eventually built up his own studio and released that game for fans to enjoy. It was a success, and we have a sequel quickly gearing up for its release into the marketplace. However, beyond that, we know that at least two other projects are in the works.
We know that Microsoft has teamed up with Kojima Productions to deliver OD. Meanwhile, not long ago last year, Hideo confirmed that he partnered with PlayStation to deliver an exclusive called Physint. What makes this a little more interesting is that Physint is to be the next-generation action espionage game.
Thanks to VGC, we discovered that Hideo spoke with French magazine Le Film Français. During the interview, Kojima noted that he was working on Physint, and it would be at least five or six years before that’s ready for the market. So, we won’t see this game for a good little while. Of course, seeing how it competes with his former behemoth of a franchise, Metal Gear, will be very interesting.
What’s also interesting here is that OD wasn’t mentioned. According to the report from VGC, OD didn’t come up in conversation, but there hasn’t been any indication that the game was scrapped. Meanwhile, the topic was about directing a film, in which Hideo Kojima noted that he would be keen on doing this, perhaps after Physint. With that being a production announced after OD, it could be that it’s a game slated to come before Physint, so we’re getting a general timeline of when Kojima will potentially direct a film rather than what is currently in front of Hideo.
