Sony had a bit of a hit with their original PlayStation Portable device. It was a big contender against Nintendo and its line of handheld devices at the time. With some incredible games and visuals that almost reached the PlayStation 2, we’re not surprised fans took up with the device. However, their successor, the PlayStation Vita, didn’t see as much fanfare. Could Sony be preparing yet another new portable device alongside the PS6?
We’re dealing with nothing more than rumors and speculation right now. However, if one insider is to be believed, we should see a new PlayStation Portable device come out around the PS6 launch. Thanks to the folks at Gamerant, we’re discovering that insider HeisenbergFX4 has made a statement regarding this portable handheld.
On the NeoGAF website, the insider noted that he has sources that the portable handheld is coming. However, it won’t fall in the Portal pricing. Furthermore, they feel that the device should come out into the marketplace sometime around the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 6. We’re not sure when the new console will arrive; however, a former PlayStation executive feels like 2028 is an appropriate year to launch the new platform.
So, with the next-generation PlayStation console, we could see another portable offering. We’ve seen rumors in the past about this supposed new portable device. However, just how powerful this will be and some of the incentives that Sony will be marketing to encourage consumers to purchase both the PS6 and the new handheld will remain a mystery for now.
At the moment, we’ll have to focus on the next-generation console platform. That might cue us in on potential portable plans later on. Meanwhile, in regards to other notable Sony-related news, we’re finding out a new price hike could be coming to the PlayStation 5. With tariff concerns, Sony might be raising the price of the console soon, but so far, nothing has officially rolled out with a new price tag in the United States.
