Well, get used to sticking around Los Santos a little while longer. So many of us were itching to get our hands on Grand Theft Auto VI. It’s a new game with another thrilling criminal-focused storyline and a return to Vice City, so yeah, sign me up. GTA 6 is undoubtedly going to set major records when it launches. However, it’s not happening this year. Today, we’re finding out that the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick, is more than fine with the delay.
Rockstar Games is cooking up the next GTA installment. We knew this for several years, although the official announcement trailer was only released at the end of 2023. Since then, Rockstar Games has remained quiet, which even sparked one former developer to suggest devs not to release another trailer. Still, we finally know that the 2025 calendar year will wrap up without the next GTA installment.
Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out that the CEO of Take-Two Interactive issued a statement alerting gamers and investors alike that Rockstar Games has their support. Strauss noted that Rockstar Games is looking to bring out a ground-breaking, blockbuster entertainment experience. So, if they need more time to see this come to fruition, it’s more than okay with them.
That said, Strauss noted that they take the movement of their titles seriously and appreciate the vast global anticipation over Grand Theft Auto VI. Of course, Take-Two still has plenty of releases in the marketplace that should help set new records for their net bookings in the fiscal year. Meanwhile, things will only look up for the company when next year arrives, and we get GTA 6.
If you missed the announcement, Grand Theft Auto VI is now slated to release on May 26, 2026. We have a year to get through before we get the next installment, but at least we have a specific release date this time around rather than a generic 2026 launch window.
