There is a lot of hype built up around Grand Theft Auto VI. However, since the announcement trailer for GTA 6 came out, Rockstar Games has been silent. This has naturally left fans speculating endlessly about when we might see the next trailer come out into the marketplace. Today, one former Rockstar Games developer is suggesting to the team not to bother releasing another trailer.
The comments came from Obbe Vermeij. This developer had a hand in the franchise for years until he departed from the company after Grand Theft Auto IV. Taking to X, Obbe reflected on his time working on the franchise. In particular, an X post spoke about how the developers scraped several ideas for Grand Theft Auto IV previously featured in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Some of the items that were cut included stats for the protagonist, multiple cities, stealth, underwater swimming, jet packs, car modding, and planes, to name a few. That was because the developers wanted to focus more on the story and design missions around the narrative. It was only after the game was released that Obbe opted to leave because he thought, at the time, the series would just get darker and more serious. However, he did note that Grand Theft Auto V proved him wrong.
But in a follow-up X post, Obbe noted that he wouldn’t release any additional trailers as there’s more than enough hype. By just releasing the game without trailers, he feels that this would only make the launch an even bigger event. It’s certainly an interesting move, and with Rockstar Games remaining quiet, perhaps that’s already in the plans.
Unfortunately, we’re still in the dark about when exactly we can expect this game. Developers only noted during the announcement trailer that 2025 would be the launch year for the game. So far, there’s been no news on the team settling on a specific date or if they are being forced into delaying the game out of the calendar year. Despite that, there are reports of publishers looking to avoid launching their game anywhere near the release of GTA 6.
