Insider Says There’s No Current Next-Gen Xbox Dev Kits

March 10, 2025 by Dennis Patrick

However, it’s speculated that this new console will essentially be a PC. That would allow studios to start developing now.

Microsoft is in an interesting position right now with the Xbox console. For years, this behemoth console manufacturer duked it out with Nintendo and PlayStation. While typically trailing in last place, that didn’t stop them from pushing on with new exclusives and hardware. But this generation, we saw a deviation from this mindset.

Instead of pushing on with new games and consoles that would cater to just Xbox adopters, they became more multiplatform. Not every game is available on the likes of PlayStation 5. However, it might not be very long before that happens. So when rumors started to swirl online that Microsoft already had new dev kits for the next Xbox console, there was some interest in learning what we could potentially expect.

Well, industry insider Jez Corden says those rumors are not accurate. In a recent podcast, Jez noted that there’s no current dev kit available for the next-generation Xbox console. However, that doesn’t actually mean developers are not already working on new games. That’s because it’s speculated the following console hardware will be essentially a PC.

With developers having access to what specifications to target for the next Xbox console, they can develop games now. One of the big games that is speculated to be in the works is Call of Duty. But don’t anticipate that this Windows hybrid console will launch next year.

Instead, Jez noted that he believes it would have a 2027 launch window. Of course, we’ll have to take this all as nothing more than a rumor for now. Regardless, that could make a good move on Microsoft’s part, as this could mean players might have access to PlayStation games as well, depending on how the Windows-based system works. After all, Sony has been pushing its past PlayStation exclusives on Steam for a few years now.

Another news article featuring industry insider Jez Corden recently claimed that Fable was not delayed because of the PlayStation 5. You can read more about those comments right here.
