We might not be moving away from consoles quite yet. There’s still a need for hardware to run games in quite a few regions. But at the same time, we are seeing more of a push with cloud gaming. Xbox has been making several moves on this front, and not far behind is Sony PlayStation. Even the Nintendo Switch had some games that could only be enjoyed through cloud gaming. Today, we’re finding out that the PlayStation Cloud gaming service just saw several hundred games get added in support.
Thanks to the folks over at Cloud Dosage, which runs a script to keep tabs on changes, they found an influx of supported games for the PlayStation Cloud. For those who remember, it was just a few years ago that we saw Sony take on support with cloud gaming. Players could use their PlayStation 5 to enjoy various games they own through the cloud. Of course, they were also required to be subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium to take advantage of this feature.
With as much storage space as some games require, cloud gaming can be a lifesaver. Recently, 371 games were reportedly added to the collection of supported titles. As Cloud Dosage noted, this is only for PlayStation 5 owners right now, but that might soon open up to the PlayStation Portal.
Those games do include some notable heavy hitters. Now we have games like Helldivers 2, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Silent Hill 2, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and the ever-popular Honkai: Star Rail included in the mix. You can view the full breakdown of recently added supported games here.
Again, we shouldn’t expect cloud gaming to take over. While it has a market, and we’re seeing a push to expand this service from Sony and Microsoft, disc-based consoles are not leaving. Recently, the former Sony CEO spoke about how he believes the PlayStation 6 won’t be dropping the disc drive simply because many markets still require a disc to enjoy the latest generation of games.
