The gaming world today has many safeties and securities that are meant to help ensure a smooth gaming experience when in the online space while also protecting valuable information that you might have tied to certain accounts. For example, if you are playing an online game where you pay for a subscription or have a card “saved” so you can get items via microtransactions, the game itself will attempt to protect your information so your card doesn’t get charged erroneously by “bad actors.” Even in the case of a game like Roblox, you must be careful about what’s happening out in the world, including a phishing scam that’s going on right now within the title.
This comes directly from the Roblox support team via a special blog post.
“We have been notified of a phishing scam impersonating Tipalti Support. This fraudulent email directs users to a fake “Reset Password” page.”
If you go to that page, it’ll ask you for personal information that’ll allow them to use your account without your consent. Thus, the team warns you not to go to those links or fall for this scam:
“Please do not click on any links or provide any information to emails with the subject line “Important Notice: Action Required to Secure Your Tipalti Account” without verifying that the email address is spelled correctly. In this case, emails from Tipalti will be sent from support@tipalti.com.”
On the off chance you did fall for the scam, the support team revealed what you should do. First, you need to reset your account with an all-new password and credentials so that the scammers can’t use it anymore. You should also report what happened to the support team so they can look into it and attempt to find those who scammed you. They also recommend you check out the “Help Center” page to know what to do in the future to protect your account.
It might seem like all of this is a bit “overkill” for a game like Roblox, but it’s a bit more complicated than that. First, the game has a myriad of microtransactions and a Premium Membership service that you have to pay real money for. As such, credit card information and other accounts could be accessible through player profiles.
Second, the last thing any of us wants is for our player profile to be hacked, items that we’ve earned within to be traded away, sold, or given to others without our consent, and so on. In this case, it’s absolutely better to be safe than sorry.
