Were you as excited as I was when you heard the rumours that The Binding of Isaac could possibly be coming to the 3DS? Bad news — Nintendo has decided that they won’t be releasing it, after all.
While the infamously morose yet highly acclaimed indie game has been available on Steam for some time now, it was also due to be released on the 3DS eShop as a downloadable purchase. Nintendo, however, on examining the game, have decided to not release it due to the game’s religious themes.
The news came from tweets made by the game’s creator, Edmund McMillen. “Attention: After a long internal debate Nintendo has decided NOT to allow the Binding of Isaac on the 3ds.“ He tweeted on Tuesday night. “As many assumed the reasons were due to the games "questionable religious content". Thank GOD Steam exists.”
Instead of venting his frustrations on Nintendo, McMillen instead took the chance to praise the online distributor, where The Binding of Isaac found it’s original success. “Seriously though, I gotta again publicly thank steam for fully supporting Isaac and not requiring ESRB or censoring its published games.”
“Just one of many reasons why Steam is the top dog of digital distribution.”
