We have some interesting new insights about Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Ajxtt is allegedly a playtester who posted their impressions on the game in the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit. They shared video and photo evidence, but as they explained, this is definitely an earlier version of the game. So some of the things that they observed here may not reflect the final product.
With all that in mind, we’ll share some select pieces from Ajxtt’s impressions, to pass on spoilers and focus on the more salient details:
- Played for 10-11 hours so far, on a base PS5 in quality mode. Extremely old build, can’t even redeem the deluxe outfit codes that came with his disc and none of the delay improvements have been added yet.
- He found all the main and side quests “very interesting” so far, has completed 8 main missions
- There’s a huge amount of mocapped cutscenes, important scenes are “very good, almost like a movie” but other NPC interactions are weird where their mouths don’t move
- First three hours is full of the movie-like mocapped cutscenes
- Game has lived up to his hype, “Ghost of Tsushima with an AC feel with better stealth”
- Gameplay complaint is that the dodging and parry mechanic feels way too slow for him
- Game is well polished, in 10-11 hours, no bugs or glitches were encountered except one cutscene where a guy walked through a wall
- Feels nostalgic, reminds him of Revelations
We think most fans will be excited by the claim that Assassin’s Creed Shadows “lived up to the hype.” We know, in spite of the controversies that have surrounded this title and its publisher that a lot of fans are really looking forward to this game. When the game goes through the review circuit that metascore may not necessarily land it as one of the GOTY contenders, but in this point of time when game reviewers and content creators seem to commonly split with the players so frequently, fans will have to rely on each other’s word of mouth to decide if they’ll like these games.
We are also particularly excited about the claim that the game is very well polished. After nearly a decade of early rumors and reports that Assassin’s Creed titles were getting released with bugs, it’s a very welcome breath of fresh air. It may turn out that most Assassin’s Creed games need to pass on that lucrative holiday timeframe to launch at the polished state they should be in.
With this small bit of positive buzz, we are hopeful that the Assassin’s Creed team managed to get this right. The fate of Ubisoft may quite literally depend on whether Assassin’s Creed Shadows crawls out of the shadows and becomes the hit they need it to be.
