It’s only been on sale since the 14th of February, but chilling ghost story Dear Esther has sold over 50,000 copies.
The indie game, which found it’s humble beginnings as a Half Life mod in 2008, repaid it’s indie fund within just six hours of release. “Not only have we received amazingly positive reviews, but the response from fans has been outstanding,” wrote writer and producer Dan Pinchbeck on the official Dear Esther website. “Within one week of launch, we sold over 50,000 copies of the game, which is an extraordinary amount for an indie release.”
It’s not time for the Dear Esther team to sit back and relax, however. The team are currently working with translators to have the game subtitled and the menus translated within the coming week. Patches are also underway to help smooth out anything that might have been missed, and a non iTunes or Amazon release of the soundtrack in FLAC format is in the works.
Dear Esther is currently available on Steam.
