$800 is a lot of money. It’s a lot of money to spend on a gaming console and it’s a lot of money to spend at once. But if you do spend it you would be warranted in believing that the product would give you the best experience of it’s relative SKU. This isn’t always the case with the PlayStation 5 Pro. Owners have been complaining that the console’s Enhanced mode sometimes makes games worse, not better.
This is a difficult one. While no one can deny that the PlayStation 5 Pro is the most powerful console the company has even released. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any problems. That is the whole point of buying a console. Isn’t it supposed to be an easy gaming experience? Without fettling with settings to get your game to run right, or look good. All of that should be handled by the system, that’s why you pay a premium. However, sadly, this is not true anymore. It’s not just with the PlayStation 5 Pro but with several other gaming consoles currently available. VGC reported that the PS5 Pro owners were complaining that Enhanced titles could look worse than the standard games.
The Silent Hill Reddit page has been home to a multitude of quality complaints over the past week. Apparently the game plays at a locked 30fps. A shimmering effect appears that some thing might be the PSSR malfunctioning.
Now, if this was the only concession you had to make… one that could be fixed with time. Then it would be understandable to overlook it. Sort of. But for $800 you get a console without a disc drive, without a stand, without any games and with limited real world improvements. It’s starting to sound a little like a snake oil advertisement. That’s how business is done nowadays. Games get released requiring a patch, devices are sold but don’t work as promised and users are sold an incomplete product under the guise of cost cutting. What’s worse is that we all go along with it.
Let’s hope that something changes, both regarding the quality of these games and the practices of these companies. Hopefully the comment that the PS5 Pro makes games look worse, won’t be true for long. If your curious about the early PS5 Pro disc drive scalping click here.
