What does it take to make a worthy DLC crossover? That is the question, isn’t it? If you do the wrong one, you could easily be called out for doing things like “needless DLC” or just trying to “bank off of trends.” At worst, you could be cited as either “unoriginal” or trying to make a big “money grab.” It may not seem like the most important thing to worry about, but these kinds of things matter, especially to gamers who are tired of being “given” DLC that doesn’t matter. So, when Stellar Blade revealed it was doing a certain DLC crossover with another beloved title featuring a certain character 2B named, they were pumped.
Yes, we’re talking about the crossover with Nier Automata. The game from Platinum Games is one of the most beloved RPGs of the last decade, and that’s saying something. It also saved Platinum from going under, showing how much it sold! So, with 2B about to meet Eve in the cosmetic sense, the PlayStation Blog broke down the crossover, along with the new additions to Photo Mode. The CTO of developer Shift Up had this to say about it:
Nier:Automata significantly inspired Stellar Blade. The collaboration between Director Kim Hyung Tae and Director Yoko Taro, marked by mutual respect and creativity, led to this successful outcome. In the center of all this is Emil (voiced by Maii Kadowaki), the strange character from Nier:Automata. Emil’s Shop makes a surprise appearance in the world of Stellar Blade where eleven different collaboration-special items will be available. Items that intertwine the best of both games, leading you to a more enriched world.”
Obviously, one of those crossover items is getting 2B’s main iconic outfit for Eve to wear. However, as the Blog also shows, there are numerous other outfits from the RPG that Eve and others can try on. Sure, it won’t change the game in the biggest of senses, but we’re sure many will do it more for the “aesthetics” of what’s going on more than anything.
This is only amplified when you see the additions that have been made to the Photo Mode:
“You can now transform each moment in the game into your personal masterpiece. Beautiful landscape, thrilling battles, those emotional moments with the characters. Capture these moments to your heart’s content. Meticulous camera work and various filters allow you to create unique looks.”
All of this, and more, will arrive on November 20th.
