If you’re looking at a mix of popularity and success in recent years, it’s hard to deny a title like Vampire Survivors its due. After all, this is a simple yet fun game that was able to not only capture people’s attention but almost immediately spawn a bunch of “knockoffs” that tried to capture its intense gameplay. The game’s concept is simple: you play as someone who has to try and survive a horde of vampires and other monsters for as long as possible, using all kinds of weapons and skills to help you conquer the monsters before you.
Then, when you do die, you pass on some skills to the next character, attempt to stack up some buffs and abilities, and then do another attack! The game is super popular and has had both DLC and crossovers in the past. However, today, they announced the biggest one yet, and it involves another series that is known for vampires: Castlevania.
That’s right! On October 31st, Vampire Survivors will crossover with various characters from the beloved Konami franchise, and it won’t be a small cameo that you see here. Oh no! You’ll see something much more profound!
Just in terms of gameplay, the team promises about ten extra hours for you to have fun with. Plus, there are dozens of new weapons to use, a couple dozen music tracks to listen to, and, as the trailer below highlights, numerous characters from the vampire-hunting series will be available for you to pick as you on your killing spree.
As some have already noted, it’s not a surprise that these two franchises are crossing over. After all, the Konami franchise inspired the indie game in its visuals and certain other aesthetics. In fact, they’re so in love with the franchise that they’re calling the DLC “Ode To Castlevania.” That’s pretty on the nose, wouldn’t you say?
Another interesting element here is that the DLC was announced right after the main game celebrated its 2-year anniversary! First of all, congrats on having a great first two years. Second, it’s hilarious to think about this announcement coming, as the team itself went and noted that fans shouldn’t expect anything big for the anniversary outside of a basic patch. Clearly, they were just trying to throw some doubt on a potential big announcement like this.
Oh, and the best part? You can get the DLC for $3.99! So, are you ready to kill vampires with a family of vampire hunters?
