The Shattered Space expansion for Starfield was released on September 30, and just a day after its release, the new content is already facing some backlash. Despite positive remarks being made on social media, the DLC currently has “Mixed” reviews on Steam (via TheGamer).
Shattered Space follows the player character as they travel to the planet Va’ruun’kai in the Kavnyk system after receiving a distress signal from The Oracle space station. Here, the Starborn encounters ghosts called Vortex Phantoms, but as we come to find out, only the player character can hear the Anasako Phantom. Many fans of the game don’t like this addition to the story, as the majority of Bethesda games already feature a “chosen one” trope.
Praise for Shattered Space does exist, with many players applauding the denser map and improved exploration, something many felt was lacking in the vanilla release.
However, detractors are frustrated with its poorly designed zero-gravity fights, along with the sheer number of fetch quests, something the majority of gamers dislike. Shattered Space also fails to implement enough new weapons, armor, and ship parts, making its $30 price tag feel steep.
The fan-favorite companion Andreja is also receiving some backlash for her inclusion in the DLC, with NPCs not reacting to her presence. Strangely, she barely speaks at all.
“Andreja doesn’t matter because she has no effect whatsoever on this DLC,” reads one review.
Starfield is currently available to play on PC and Xbox Series X/S. Despite rumors, insiders confirm that the game isn’t in development for PlayStation 5.
