Fans weren’t initially thrilled with the reveal of the PS5 Pro. Boasting a $699.99 price tag and upgrades that many felt were lacking, players were quickly driven away.
However, Sony also revealed a 30th Anniversary Edition PS5 Pro, featuring a classic look and instantly appealing to previous naysayers. Unsurprisingly, these sold out within seconds of them going on sale in the UK this week and are now being scalped online for unbelievable prices.
Many are listing the bundle for around $6,500, with some reaching upwards of $13,000.
The PS5 30th Anniversary bundle is limited to 12,300 units worldwide and goes on sale in the US today, retailing for $999.99. It contains:
- Limited edition PS5 Pro console with 2TB SSD, Wi-Fi 7 in territories supporting this standard, and matching limited edition accessories – DualSense wireless controller, DualSense Edge wireless controller, DualSense Charging Station, and a Console Cover for a Disc Drive (Disc Drive sold separately)
- Vertical Stand
- Original PlayStation controller-style cable connector housing
- Four PlayStation Shapes cable ties
- PlayStation sticker
- Limited Edition PlayStation Poster (1 of 30 possible designs)
- PlayStation Paperclip
The new system will include support for 60Hz and 120Hz displays, advanced ray tracing, and 4K output. Compatible games can be played at up to 120 FPS via AI upscaling. Although Sony revealed that PS5 Pro Enhanced titles would run at 60 FPS on the new system, Tom Warren recently clarified that this is not guaranteed and that some games will still run at 30 FPS.
According to reports, developers have the option of targeting 60 FPS over 30 FPS, though these titles may still technically quality as PS5 Pro Enhanced. Sony is aiming to have up to 50 PS5 Pro Enhanced games ready at launch, with another 8,500 PS4 backward compatible titles promising improved performance through the Pro’s Boost Mode.
