THQ Nordic has announced that Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 15 (via Gematsu). Players who already own the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version of the remastered game will receive the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S versions as a free upgrade.
Additionally, those who preorder Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition for the current-gen consoles by October 14 will get the game for half price.
The original action role-playing hack-and-slash game was released in 2012. With a staggering budget of $50, it became one of the most expensive video games to develop of all time, similar in scope to Half-Life 2, Lords of the Fallen, and the recent runaway success Black Myth: Wukong.
Those playing on PlayStation 5 will take full advantage of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. Additionally, the game’s loading times have been drastically shortened thanks to newly implemented SSD technology.
The Deathfinitive Edition includes the following features:
- Darksiders II with all downloadable content included and integrated into the game, offering a total playtime of more than 30 hours.
- Reworked and tuned game balancing and loot distribution.
- Improved and reworked level, character and environment graphics.
Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be released for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on October 15 for $29.99. The definitive edition of the game was first released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2015 and was later ported to the Nintendo Switch in 2019. A parallel sequel, Darksiders III, was released in 2018.
