Bandai Namco has shared a preview of a new, and very unique, Dragon Ball game.
It seems to be called Dragon Ball Project Multi (we hope that name’s just a placeholder), and it’s being touted as the first ever 4 vs 4 team-oriented battle game. As reported by Video Games Chronicle, it looks like this title is a MOBA, though we won’t know all that much having seen only this short introduction trailer.
Dragon Ball has certainly had a prolific video game history. While most fans will remember the franchise’s many fighting games, including but not limited to, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Bandai Namco and other developers have tried their hand at making other kinds of games too.
For example, there were side-scrolling platformers, like Dragon Ball Advanced Adventure, action RPGs like Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku, and Dragon Ball Z Collectible Card Game. Incredibly, all of these aforementioned games came out for the Game Boy Advance, but Dragon Ball games date all the way back to the Famicom in Japan in 1986.
It’s certainly interesting that there hasn’t been a 4 vs 4 Dragon Ball game before. For a lot of Dragon Ball Z’s history, a lot of the big fights aren’t tournament arcs, but confrontations between teams of fighters, such as the Ginyu Force. On a conceptual level, it seems, no game developers came up with an idea to recreate that feeling yet.
Dragon Ball Project Multi is confirmed for Steam, Android, and iOS, and it isn’t clear if it could come to consoles down the line. But curious gamers can sign up for beta testing now, for Steam users in the US, UK, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, France, and Germany. The beta starts on August 20, so we’ll find out soon enough if there’s something interesting to be experienced here.
Bandai Namco also shared PC requirements, which you can see below:
Minimum:
OS – Windows 10 / Windows 11
CPU – AMD Ryzen 3 2200G / Intel Core i5-6600

Recommended:

Memory – 8 GB
GPU – Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 / AMD Radeon R9 290X / Intel Arc A380

Apple users need to get at least an iPhone 11 or older. They are recommended to play with a phone at least as old as iPhone 13, and they need to be updated to at least iOS 15. Android users can start at Snapdragon 855, recommended to start at Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. They’ll also need Android 10 and 4 GB memory.
None of these specs are particularly powerful, so it looks like Dragon Ball Project Multi is planned for the esports crowd. Dragon Ball’s broad appeal bodes well for its success, in the same way that Marvel Rivals could be huge based on the strength of the IP alone.
We’re all looking forward to learning more about Dragon Ball Project Multi. In the meantime, you can watch the announcement trailer below.
