Visions of Mana Shows More Combat in Lengthy New Trailer

July 29, 2024 by Carley Garcia

It’s all about the elements.

Ahead of the release of Visions of Mana next month, Square Enix has released a lengthy new trailer detailing the title’s recently announced Elemental Vessels, including the Vessel of Earth: Gnome Shovel, Vessel of Light: Lumina Lantern, and Vessel of Darkness: Shade Sight.

Check out the Battle and Elemental Vessels trailer for Visions of Mana below:

According to the game’s producer Masaru Oyamada and director Ryosuke Yoshida, the Elemental Vessels were added to the game to maintain it’s ‘Mana’ feel, connecting it to past games in the series while also doing something fresh.

“One of the most important elements of Mana games is that feeling that you’re interacting with the elementals (spirits that control elements like wind, fire or darkness),” said Yoshida.

“That’s at the core of the design of Visions of Mana and something that was really important to me. It’s such a vital part of that distinctive Mana series identity, and if the battles didn’t capture it, there would be no point to the game at all!”

The Mana series began with Final Fantasy Adventure for the Game Boy, setting the series up as a side story to Square’s flagship franchise Final Fantasy. However, this changed with the second installment, Secret of Mana, as it became its series.

“In Tianeea, the Fire Village, everyone is preparing to celebrate the coming of the Faerie and the naming of an “alm.” Every four years, alms from around the world are chosen to travel to the Tree of Mana and rejuvenate the flow of mana power. A soul guard is also chosen to ensure the alms’ safe pilgrimage. Val is one such guard,” the game’s description reads.

Visions of Mana will be released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC on August 29.
